Beach Sundal

I remember the times our family used to go the chennai every summer for vacation. My cuz and I used to go Bessie Beach...................and if you have ever been to a beach in chennai - you can never forget the sundal and murukku!!!

Today I just got reminded of the beach sundal and thought i would make them and even blog it for all of you.

Ingredients: (serves 4)

2 cups vatana/ white peas (soak overnight and pressure cook with very little water for 3 whistles)
1/4 teaspoon chat masala
1/4 teaspoon Amchur powder (optional)
corriander leaves
salt
shredded cocunut/ cut pieces
raw mango (cut into small pieces)
mustard seed

For the Masala:

1/4 teaspoon urad dal
1/4 teaspoon dhania seeds
1/4 teaspoon jeera seeds
2 dry red chillies
curry leaves
aesofotida

Method:

Heat the pan and dry roast the Masala ingredients. Blend the masala to a coarse form. Heat a pan with oil and add the mustard seeds. add more curry leaves if you want to. Add the coarse masala followed by the boiled vatana. Add the salt and the chaat masala. If you dont have raw mango then add the amchur powder to get that little tangy taste. Let the masala mix well and then add fresh coconut and some lime juice before you serve it.
